The highly anticipated IMBA Epic trail, to be called “The Australian Alpine Epic” opens in December 2014 and will be the first ‘Epic’ trail as designated by the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA).

This trail will become the jewel in the crown, of the ever expanding trail network at Mt Buller.  The opening of the Australian Alpine Epic is a culmination of what has been a measured and considered approach to a growing summer program offering, with world class trail building, an increase in the facilities available to all riders and ongoing infrastructure investment.

Mt Buller – Australian Alpine Epic – MTB

So what makes a MTB trail ‘Epic’ in the IMBA’s eyes?

Well – see below an extract from their site:

‘…demanding, singletrack adventures in a natural setting. The current Epics celebrate true backcountry riding experiences that are technically and physically challenging, more than 80 percent singletrack and at least 20 miles in length.’

The below gives a teaser of what we can expect in December and co-incides with Australia’s first dedicated Mountain Bike Summit featuring international and local speakers on mountain biking, trail building , advocacy and tourism/events.

Given the popularity and expertise of the trail building conducted by World Trail, this trail will arguably be one of the best singletrack rides in the southern hemisphere. I am looking forward to riding The Australian Alpine Epic this summer.
