But while this retail therapy may be a short term fix, why not put in the time to plan for one of those lifetime experiences around some of the best MTB events and races that are on offer?

Below we outline 6 events that would be worth your while. Team up with a couple mates and turn it into an event to remember.


Megavalanche – Alpe d’Huez


Start at the top of the mountain – get to bottom – first one there wins. A pretty simple concept has turned into a very popular event, both for the participant and spectator. Plenty of sketchy crashes at speed, on ice, snow and rock. With the mega – anyone can pretty much get a gig, with qualifying runs for the pros, through to amateurs and women only. There is even a megakid for 9-14 year olds! The majority of rides or Enduro rigs with the odd DH for good measure. The megavalanche is on from the 3rd to 9th of July 2017.

Pass’portes du Soleil

The passportes du soleil has been listed as a one off experience to ride across 15 resorts and in 2 countries with one pass. Utilising the existing lifts throughout the area, you can experience:

  • 3 Days to complete
  • 9 different resorts (incl. Chatel, Leg Gets and Morzine)
  • 80km
  • 2 countries (France & Switzerland)
  • 15 ski lifts
  • 6000m total downhill
  • 1000m total uphill

Different resrts will have a mix of activities to enjoy, while you are smashing some of the best MTB terrain that Europe has to offer.

Best international airport to connect is Geneva.

Trans Provence

The Trans Provence is the Enduro events that all other Enduro’s look up to. Having cut its teeth in 2009 and even mentioned here in 2014, the Trans Provence now gets sold out making it the most sought after ticket in the Enduro calendar, for punters and privateers wanting to ride.


This race is the real deal, with significant climbing and distance covered across the 6 days. A summary of the 2016 race is below:

  • 9177m climbing
  • 18,003m descending


The 2017 Trans Provence MTB Enduro will be held from the 18 to 23rd of June.

The closest airport in which transfers are arranged, is Nice, France.

Crankworx Whistler

For the pure spectacle, Crankworx has been long lauded as the mountain bike event to attend, and while there are a now a number of Crankworx events around the world, the Whistler event has got to be the one at the top of the list.

Every MTB discipline is catered for, from DH, Enduro, and XC through to Slope Style, Dual Slalom and a Red Bull Rampage style event (and everything in between).

Yes its going to get rowdy and loose – enjoy!

Any MTB World Cup Event

Best MTB Events World CupIf you are looking to brush shoulders with the worlds best, then a world cup event is a great way to get access to world champions, both on and off the bike.

The whippet like tenacity of an XC racer, smashing out laps on the XC course, or the balls and all DH racer floating over sections you though were unrideable.


The after party is even bigger, with the antics from the likes of Josh Bryceland and crew keeping the crowd entertained.


With a world cup schedule spanning both the northern and southern hemisphere, there is a good opportunity to see one in 2017.

Bike Trade Show – Eurobike / InterbikeEurobike Interbike best mtb events

Bike trade shows are a bike geeks dream, where most of the worlds bike and accessory companies show their new season wares to the trade and public. For many this is the first launch to the media and public for the following years models.

You can see the big brands and not so big brands, with the battle of the booth, each year trying to out do each other on finding innovate ways to display bikes and bike parts, that is a feat in itself. Amongst the manufacturer booths are plenty of other events, side parties, rider signings.

Eurobike is held in Fredrichshafen, Germany in late August.

You can access via Munich, GER or Zurich, SUI.

Interbike is held in Las Vegas, NV in September.

Each of these events offers their own unique flavour and are some of the best mtb and enduro events that are out there.
